What is it about?
To use plain language to communicate clearly and effectively with your colleagues, the public and others.

Who the course is for:
People who communicate with the public.

Aim of the course:

  • It will take you about 95 minutes to do the course.
  • The content in this course is presented like a website. You scroll down to read the information.
  • This course does not save your progress or answers.  You can do each part separately or all parts in one sitting.
  • The course might work differently on a computer, tablet or smartphone.

The course looks at:

  1. What is a literacy friendly approach in healthcare.
  2. Tips for using a literacy friendly approach.
  3. Resources and next steps.

The course has 3 parts and looks at:

  • About plain language (25 minutes).
  • Plain language tips (40 minutes).
  • Using plain language in your day-to-day work (30 minutes).

At the end of this course, you will:

  • Understand what plain language is.
  • Know the main benefits of using plain language in your communications.
  • Learn practical tips to put plain language into practice, including writing and speaking clearly.
  • Know where to find practical resources about using plain language.
